Return to Filastin – A Play About Resilience and Hope
Documented by Krishna Dasiyani
In a time when truth is often blurred by narratives and headlines, Return to Filastin cuts through with clarity and emotional depth. Staged by Scrapyard – The Theatre, the play is an evocative response to the continued occupation of Palestinian land and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Through the story of Zaid – an American-born Palestinian reconnecting with his ancestral land – the play becomes a mirror to the realities that seldom make it to mainstream screens. As Zaid’s journey unfolds, he confronts the stark contrast between what he’s been told and what he experiences, leading to a powerful rediscovery of identity, belonging, and resistance.
Photographing this play was more than just documenting a performance – it was about capturing the silence between dialogues, the weight of a glance, and the resilience etched into every gesture. These images aim to reflect the heart of the production: a tribute to hope, memory, and the fight for justice.
